Dr. Ilia Bountouni

Dr Bountouni is a Consultant General Adult Psychiatrist working in the Complex Depression Anxiety and Trauma Team (CDAT) at Camden and Islington NHS Foundation Trust, a team that provides care to patients presenting with a wide range of psychiatric conditions from depression and anxiety disorders to psychosis, bipolar and personality disorders.

Dr Bountouni completed her postgraduate training at South London & Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust (SLaM) which is the only mental health trust in the UK to have its own biomedical research centre (BRC) and is part of one of England’s six Academic Health Sciences Centres, King’s Health Partners. During her training she obtained an LLM in Mental Health Law by Northumbria University and a postgraduate certificate in clinical education by King’s College London.

Dr Bountouni’s placement at the National Affective Disorders Service (SLaM), one of six national affective  disorder units in the UK, equipped her with specialist clinical skills to manage patients with refractory depression and bipolar affective disorder and enabled her to participate in research investigating the role of Lithium and Quetiapine in depressive disorder. Furthermore her work in CDAT gave her the opportunity to develop expertise in the administration of transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) for psychiatric conditions and to become a TMS provider.  Dr Bounotouni completed Pulses TMS training course that was run in London by the Clinical TMS Society in July 2019.

Alongside her academic and clinical activities Dr Bountouni teaches undergraduate medical students at University College London (UCL) and participates in clinical governance within the NHS.
