In 2020, the Medical and Healthcare Products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) in the UK approved Esketamine (Spravato®) as a medication that can be used in the treatment of patients who suffer from moderate to severe treatment-resistant depression.
Treatment-resistant depression is usually defined as failure to respond to two different antidepressants.
One of our expert consultant psychiatrists will see you for an assessment to confirm your diagnosis and if Esketamine is the right treatment for you.
Esketamine is taken by a nasal (nose) spray device
The treatment must be administered in our clinic under supervision of one of our trained clinicians.
Your consultant psychiatrist at London Esketamine Clinic will decide how many nasal sprays you need per treatment session and how often you should have a session.
– Esketamine is usually used twice a week for the first 4 weeks
– Once a week for the second 4 weeks
– After the first 8 weeks, Esketamine is usually used either once a week or once every 2 weeks
Each time you have the medication you will have to stay in our clinic for around 2 hours. During this time we will monitor you for any side effects such as high blood pressure. You will then be allowed to go home.
Cost
The dose of Esketamine per-session is 28mg, 56mg or 84mg.
The majority of patients should take 84mg or 56mg per session.
The price of the session differs according to the dose the patients takes.

Esketamine session
- Administration of Esketamine under supervision of one of our trained clinicians
- Blood pressure monitoring before administration of the medication and in the 2 hours following administration
- Close observation for any possible side effects for 2 hours after administration
- The patient will be monitored for 2 hours after each Esketamine administration and they will be allowed to leave our centre after the “Readiness-to-leave Checklist” is completed by the treating clinician
- Weekly reviews using validated rating scales to measure progress
- Regular reviews with our expert consultants
- Discharge meeting and agreeing a post discharge plan
- Discharge report including Esketamine treatment and discharge plan
